Golden rules on how to stay
productive when working from home

Due to the global spread of COVID-19, employers are encouraging people to work from home. If you are new to this work-from-home lifestyle, we provide you with some tips and tricks on how to make working from home a success. But of course, we are looking forward to see you all again soon at Fosbury & Sons.
Keep your daily routine
Most of the people like to stick to their routines, because it will give you a structured work-life balance. So even if you are not going to your office, it is better to keep your daily routine also at home. So get up at the same time, start and end your work at the same time, even take your coffee break at the same time as you usually do. Having a routine and boundaries will help to keep you sharp and focused, and will allow you to enjoy your evenings to the fullest.
Take a break
Try to leave your workspace or even your home regularly. Your body needs to move, so go out and take a walk. The fresh air and natural light will do you good. Even if you’re not in the mood to go outside, take a small walk in your house and make yourself some coffee or a little snack. You can even weed the garden. You get the picture: give yourself adequate time during the day to walk away from the computer screen and phone.
Regularly change your office setting
Here at Fosbury & Sons, you get the chance to move around in function of the type of work you are doing: from your private office, to our lobby and coworking spaces, to your favorite focus spot. Try to do the same at home. Create a place where you feel most comfortable. One day you will feel more focused in your closed office room, the next day you’ll be sitting at the kitchen table with a view on the garden. The more change, the more inspiration to get things done.
Remote work life can be lonely or isolated sometimes, especially for extroverts. Try to find creative ways to socialize, even if your colleagues aren’t in the same room as you are. Organize virtual coffee break moments, or schedule an informal meeting for 15 minutes where you can chitchat. Especially during these insecure moments, it is important to figure out how much interaction you need to feel connected and included. So staying in touch is key!
No PJ’s, please
No PJ’s while working from home. This will help you shifting your mindset from ‘I am just going to lounge around on the couch today’ to ‘It is time to get all my goals done today’. Try to lay out your work clothes for the day ahead. You’ll see it is a time-saver in the morning, and it will help to improve your focus for the entire day. So dress up!
We at Fosbury & Sons are hoping that we can welcome you again soon with open arms. We will make it feel like home but with all the perks that come with an F&S membership: no need to fill the coffee machine yourself and no more empty paper trays in the printer. How does that sound?
